And if you don’t know, now you know.
A few true facts about life on Planet Earth: The sky is blue, birds fly, and every person who wears clothes on their body will run into potential snags. To help you navigate those little annoyances, YouTube style star Tara Michelle shares the seven life fashion rules she lives by. And man, they are 100 percent relatable. Like, same, girl. Same.
1. Red lipstick makes you look instantly ~fashun-y~.
“Even if you’re just going to the grocery store in athleisure, or running around in jeans and a T-shirt, red lips dress up any outfit.”
2. You can’t let deodorant marks ruin your look.
“I wear mostly white and black shirts and pants because it’s just so easy to look polished when you wear basic [colors]. But black tops are tricky because of the white deo marks! Degree Black + White Deodorant works hard but doesn’t rub off on my [dark] clothing, which I love!”
3. Life is more fun in shoes you can walk in.
“I’m definitely more of a comfort person. I rarely wear heels because I find them so awful to stand in. And if I do have to dress up, I’ll wear a strappy shoe with [thick heels] because I think I’ll fall on my face in stilettos.”
4. Ain’t nobody got time to iron.
“My stuff is always rolled in a ball in a corner [of my closet], but I hate ironing. I’ll use a hair straightener to dewrinkle my clothes sometimes. Just hang the shirt up and pull the straightener down, like you’re straightening your hair. Just don’t use too high of a setting or you could burn your shirt.”
5. Layers make an outfit look interesting.
“Layering makes an outfit look intentional, like, ‘I chose all these things to go together.’ I’ll wear a jacket with everything, even if it’s 85 degrees, like a bomber jacket with a plain white shirt under it. I’m super into layering necklaces too. A choker plus a longer necklace really dresses up an outfit.”
6. Details matter too.
“I like to add a knot at the bottom of a T-shirt if it’s too long — or to cover up a stain at the [hem]. You could do it with a maxi dress too, so I’ll tie a knot in the bottom a little off to the side.”
7. It’s always cuffing season
“I’m really short, so I have to shorten my jeans. But instead of taking them to a tailor, I usually just cuff them. It really adds a specific look to an outfit — it’s a little retro and more interesting than just ‘plain’ jeans. It’s so cute with black booties or even sneakers.”
