However, this doesn’t mean that you should throw out all your glossy lipsticks or let them dry out. You can easily use them by turning them into matte lipsticks.
Apart from preventing wastage, another benefit of turning your glossy lipstick into matte is that it won’t dry your lips and you will have more shades to choose from. Using matte lipstick can dry out lips but this won’t be the case if you turn your glossy lipstick to matte. Read on to learn how to use your glossy lipstick as a matte one.

- Tissue paper
- Sponge applicator/Brush
- Face Powder

Prep Your Lips
The first step is to prep your lips. Start by applying lip balm or any type of lip conditioner on your lips. This will make your lips soft and moisturise them, allowing an easy application for your lipstick.
Then, use a lip liner to line your lips. You can choose a shade lighter or darker or similar to your lipstick. Using a lip liner will add more finish to your lips, thus giving you a cleaner look.
Apply Lipstick
Take a lipstick that you want to apply and either use a brush or directly swipe it on your lips.
Blot Your Lips
Once you have applied the lipstick on your lips, take a tissue paper and put it between your lips. Press your lips lightly on the tissue paper. You can also substitute the tissue paper with blotting paper which will soak up the moisture from the lip colour without fading it.
After blotting your lips with a blotting paper, reapply the lipstick. Then, blot again using clean tissue paper.
Along with blotting out the excess colour, this technique will also mattify your lipstick.
Powder Your Lips
- Take a sponge applicator and dip it in loose powder. Pat off the excess powder from the applicator.
- Apply the powder evenly and set it with the sponge.
- Press your lips against each other lightly.
- Now, you have your perfect matte lips.
