I know this feeling all too well. After having kids, a lot of women feel out of place in their bodies and disconnected from their pre-mom self, and on top of it, they can’t fit into any clothes they used to wear. But you can get your fashion groove back, it just might not look how you imagined. The thing is, growing a human being for nearly a year changes your body and your lifestyle has changed drastically, and so have your wardrobe needs.

It can be a big shift, but these expert tips  can help you adapt your style after becoming a mom.

  • Remember that you’re looking for a style, not THE style – When you look for new clothes post-baby, try to find a style that works for you today, not the pre-baby version of you. You may find that the high-rise jeans you were always against actually fit better and support you in the places you need after kids.
  • Let the Internet help – Turn to social media to see what other moms your age are wearing and what you like to give you fashion inspiration. Find parents online whose style you’d like to imitate and try to find outfits like theirs.
  • It’s all about trial and error – While you’re looking for what works, keep in mind that some clothes you try won’t and that’s okay. Try not to get discouraged and keep shopping until you find styles you look and feel good in.
  • Dress up every once in a while – If you’re trying to find yourself again, you’re going to have to look for yourself and dressing the part can help. Simply changing out of your jammies can boost your mood, but dressing up in the morning can also be good for your mental health and remind you that you can be stylish.
