The skin around the eyes is sensitive and delicate and any physical or mental stress can cause dark circles. Get rid of these not-so-welcome patches with simple and long-lasting home remedies.
Dark circles are not dangerous for health but they do make people hide for fear of not looking their best. They also give an impression of one looking tired and older.
There are many reasons why you may get dark circles:
1.Genetic factors
2.Hyperpigmentation
3.Eczema or other skin allergies
4.Lack of sleep or insomnia
5.Lifestyle habits
Another common cause of getting dark patches is ageing. When you age fat and collagen cells die and the new ones are not produced, losing the elasticity and tightness of the skin. This can make the blood vessels under your eyes more prominent.
Even though you may not be able to remove the dark circles completely, there are many simple home remedies you can try to minimise them.
Get enough sleep: When doctors recommend 7-8 hours of sleep daily for adults, it is not a joke. Lack of sound sleep can cause fatigue, making the skin pale and dark circles appear under the eyes.
Apply a cold compress: Cold compresses are very beneficial for eye health as well as minimising dark patches. Cold compresses like an ice pack can shrink the blood vessels around the eyes and lessen the dark color. It also helps get relief of swelling and redness in the eyes.
Tea bags: Cold tea bags should be applied over closed eyes for 10-15 minutes daily to help you get rid of dark circles. Tea contains caffeine and antioxidants that regulate and stimulate blood circulation reducing any kind of buildup in the blood vessels.
Vitamin E oil: Just before bedtime, gently massage the under-eye area with vitamin E oil or capsule. Thereafter, wash with cold water and repeat this every day.
Make-up and concealer: Applying foundation and concealer is the quickest way to hide dark circles whenever you are going out. Make-up blends with the skin easily, helping to get rid of the black patches temporarily.
Apart from these, there are many medical options like laser treatment, steroid creams, chemical peels, Blepharoplasty, and fillers that you can undertake, but these come with their own set of side effects.
