Altitude Sickness
If you are going to ever travel up to 2500’ plus and you live at sea level, there is one thing you may develop. It is called altitude sickness and this can occur even if you are fit and healthy. Symptoms are dizziness, trouble sleeping, nausea, and loss of appetite. In order to prevent or reduce this from happening, slowly ascend to your destination. Stay a couple days a slightly higher elevation and continue doing that until you reach your destination. You need to also drink a lot of fluids, avoid alcohol and exercise very lightly. Do not take tranquilizers or sleeping pills either.

Poison Ivy
If you are traveling to a place where you know there might be a chance of getting poison ivy, apply a lotion called IvyBlock. This will privet your skin from getting irritated by poison ivy. If yo already have contact with a poison ivy bush, to prevent it from spreading all over your body, use Tecnu. This product will stop you from dashing and will reduce itching as well.

Mosquitos and Ticks
Ticks and mosquitos tend to carry disease like lyme disease and malaria. In order to prevent yourself from getting bitten by a mosquito when you are outdoors during your travels, use an insect repellent that contains 30% to 50% DEET. To avoid ticks, wear light colored clothes and tuck your pants into your socks to reduce skin exposure. Also check your clothes and skin for ticks throughout the day. There are also drugs that will prevent you from developing malaria, but you must take it far in advance before your trip, so do some research on your destination and find out if you are going to a place where malaria is found.

Stomach Issues
If you plan on traveling to a place where travelers diarrhea is common, you can prevent this issue by taking two Pepto-Bismol tablets before every meal and two before bed every day (but not for longer than 3 weeks). But you can also go to your doctor and ask for an antibiotic for the bacteria that causes diarrhea. You can also reduce stomach issues with an over the counter medicine called Imodium AD, that also comes in a chewable form. There is also a powdered oral rehydration pack that you can mix in your water to retrieve necessary minerals and sugar.
