Sure, we love to talk about clothes on the runway as much as anyone, but let’s not overlook the shoes. After all, shoes make everyone look fabulous—there are no boundaries to the styles you can explore! When the spring/summer collections hit the runway we were excited to greet old favorites like sneakers and slides, while also feeling optimistic about stilettos (remember them?) and platforms. Regardless of your heel-height preference, bright colors and luxe details were at the forefront, an optimistic call to get up, pull on a pair of kicks, and greet the world with aplomb. Here, the shoe trends we’re gearing up for in 2022.
Lace Up Sandals
Gladiator sandals have gone high (remember those calf-climbing versions circa 2014?) and they’ve gone low, and we are happy to report they are here to stay. We saw ankle-skimming, Midas-touched versions on the runway with rich metallics and fun details like fluttering coins.
Flashy Pumps
We are still kicking our heels high when we get the chance, and the glitzier the better. Forget a staple black pump, go for holographic rainbow, vinyl cutouts, and crystal embellishments galore.
Fashion Sneakers
When we aren’t dancing the night away (or when we are!), sneakers are still our top choice, even on the runway. Retro seventies sneakers can enliven a basic outfit and 90s platforms are still on the run.
Clogs
Clogs pair well with the wide-legged pants for 2022—with a lower, flatter heel this season, think of them as the practical alternative to the mule. And don’t be afraid of jazzing them up with snakeskin or daisies. More is more!
Platforms
Is there anything more iconic than Naomi Campbell in those towering Vivienne Westwood platforms in 1993? Sure, she fell, but she bounded up gracefully and the moment was sealed forever in fashion history. Anyway, all that to say platform heels are iconic and you will feel like a bounding gazelle in these pretty platforms.
Fisherman Sandals
Whether they are candy colored like your favorite childhood jellies or in a sophisticated cream leather like The Row, fisherman sandals are ideal for walking around the city and anchor a floaty sundress like no other.
Loafers
Loafers, creepers, anything you’re calling ‘em, we’re wearing ‘em. The flexible style can be a cozy shearling-lined driving shoe or a refined pump, and all of them are ideal for pulling together an office-appropriate outfit.
Sky High Heels
Ah stilettos, our feet might not remember you fondly but our legs do. Razor-thin and sky-high, these barely-there heels are for the minimalists who might pass on a platform or statement shoe, but still make a huge impact.
Sporty Sandals
Most of us have moved on from Birkenstocks (just barely), but easy slides will be everywhere this year. The trick is to splurge as much as you can on a pair: refined materials elevate the style perfectly.
